Quantity Comparison (Quantity I & II)

Comparing two independently derived quantities — a frequent mains-level format built on whichever arithmetic topic the question draws from.

Introduction

Quantity Comparison questions give two separate word problems — Quantity I and Quantity II — often from two different topics (e.g., a Profit & Loss problem vs a Time & Work problem). You solve each independently, then compare the resulting numbers using the same five options as Quadratic Equations.

QI: SI = (5000×6×3)/100 = ₹900.
QII: A = 5000×(1.06)² = 5000×1.1236 = 5618, so CI = ₹618.
900 > 618, so Quantity I > Quantity II.
Quantity I: Average of first 10 natural numbers.
Quantity II: Average of first 6 even numbers.
QI: Average of first 10 natural numbers = (10+1)/2 = 5.5.
QII: First 6 even numbers are 2,4,6,8,10,12 → average = 42/6 = 7.
5.5 < 7, so Quantity I < Quantity II.
⚠️ Key Insight: Quantity Comparison is really a "solve twice" question, not a new topic — its difficulty comes purely from which two arithmetic chapters it borrows from, so strong fundamentals across all chapters matter more than any single trick here.
