Introduction

Mensuration is a formula-heavy, high-accuracy chapter: 2D shapes test area and perimeter; 3D shapes test volume and surface area. Since it's mostly direct formula application, accuracy in memorisation matters more than technique.

Q. Find the volume of a cylinder with radius 7 cm and height 10 cm. (Use π = 22/7)
Volume = πr²h = (22/7) × 7² × 10 = (22/7) × 49 × 10 = 22×7×10 = 1,540 cm³.
Q. The length and breadth of a rectangle are 15 m and 8 m. Find its area and perimeter.
Area = 15×8 = 120 m². Perimeter = 2(15+8) = 2×23 = 46 m.
⚠️ Key Insight: Total Surface Area includes ALL faces (including top/bottom); Curved/Lateral Surface Area excludes the flat top and bottom — read the question carefully to know which one is asked.
