Alphabet Test

Arranging words alphabetically and answering position-based questions about the resulting order.

What Is an Alphabet Test?

A group of words is given, and you must arrange them in dictionary (alphabetical) order, then answer questions about a specific word's position from the left or right.

Solving Approach

  • Compare the first letter of each word first; if tied, compare the second letter, and so on
  • Write out the words in a column in alphabetical order before answering position questions
  • For "which word comes 3rd" type questions, number your sorted list before answering
💡 Example: Arrange STRONG's letters alphabetically → G, N, O, R, S, T. The 3rd letter from the left is O.
⚠️ Double-check ties on the first letter — many alphabet test errors come from stopping comparison too early.
