Introduction

While Para Jumbles reorder whole sentences within a paragraph, Sentence Rearrangement reorders jumbled phrases or clauses within a single sentence to restore correct grammar and meaning.

Solving Approach

  • Identify the subject phrase first — a complete sentence needs a clear subject before its verb phrase makes sense.
  • Locate the main verb phrase and check which subject phrase logically pairs with it.
  • Place modifying phrases (time, place, manner) in their natural position — usually after the core subject-verb-object, unless emphasis requires fronting.
  • Read your final arrangement aloud (mentally) to confirm it forms one grammatically complete, logical sentence.
Q. Rearrange the jumbled phrases into a correct sentence:
1. despite the heavy rainfall / 2. the annual sports meet / 3. was conducted successfully / 4. at the district stadium
Start with the subject phrase (2), followed by the verb phrase (3), then the location modifier (4), and the contrasting clause (1) can go at the start or end for emphasis. A natural order: "Despite the heavy rainfall, the annual sports meet was conducted successfully at the district stadium." (1-2-3-4)
⚠️ Key Insight: A contrasting/concessive phrase (starting with "despite," "although," "even though") can correctly appear either at the very start or the very end of the sentence — check both positions against the options rather than assuming only one placement is valid.
Practice Focus: Locating subject and main verb phrases first · Correct placement of time/ place/manner modifiers · Testing both valid positions for concessive clauses.
